I Facebook therefore I am

I am not in the habit of reading his books - and I am not that excited to hear that he is writing another one!

However his thoughts on facebook are worth writing on your wall!

Yoga

A Christian church has the courage and doctrinal insight to stop yoga classes meeting on their property.
Surely a news worthy event in the UK!

Does God make phone calls?

Last year a few friends met to pray that God would raise up people to proclaim the Gospel - as Jesus told us to pray in Matthew 9:38. We had a wonderful time of fellowship, concern for important issues and talking to God together.

Like so many important things that are good and worthwhile, I was dragging my feet over organising another day to do this again.

However I felt convicted over my laziness yesterday when I heard a man preaching on Acts 4. The central point of his sermon was that the apostles preached the gospel with boldness. His application was not what I expected - that we should do the same - his application was that we should pray for God to raise up preachers to to speak with boldness. I thought to myself half heartedly - yes I must get that prayer meeting going again. And by the time I drove home I had forgotten those good intentions.

Then this evening I got a phone call from a friend, who had not been at our original prayer meeting but had heard of it. 'Peter, I wanted to encourage you to get some of us together to pray for God to raise up preachers - any chance of that happening?'

I believe God speaks when the Bible is preached.

Up until tonight I did not think God makes phone calls to remind those who were dragging their feet over the application.

Meeting is on Nov 10th in Cambridge - now I'm committed!

How are you doing?

The UK media is upset that Jack Straw passed a law ten years ago that now makes it near impossible for the UK to deport an EU national - even one who commited a horrific murder; that of Mr Philip Lawrence. It is sad that the UK has been so enthusiastic over recent years to cede powers to Europe. The morality of a nation state washing its hands of its responsabilities is doubtful, and remarins an issue to be pondered regardless of presenting cases such as that in the media now.

Compare the attitude of the UK government with that of the state of Texas. Below is the statement released a couple of days ago from the governor's office in response to the European Union's demand that they have a moratium on executions of murderers-

“230 years ago, our forefathers fought a war to throw off the yoke of a European monarch and gain the freedom of self-determination. Texans long ago decided that the death penalty is a just and appropriate punishment for the most horrible crimes committed against our citizens. While we respect our friends in Europe, welcome their investment in our state and appreciate their interest in our laws, Texans are doing just fine governing Texas.”

Now there is a sound basis for European policy: freedom and self-determination.
